“The whole outlook of mankind might be changed if we could all believe that we dwell under a friendly sky and that the God of heaven, though exalted in power and majesty, is eager to be friends with us.”
— A.W. Tozer
Welcome to our blog page. The content here, up through the year 2022, was originally posted on my personal blog/website (chrisdeman.com). As God continues to lead us into different ways of being spiritually formed, our creative outlets have also transitioned. So, we’re simplifying into one web presence. We hope that you find encouragement, challenge, a bit of humor, and honest reflection on our experience with God in the commonplace.

Good memories are never emptied of their treasures.
Aha!
September has been packed with momentous happenings for my clan…
Bumblebee Pilots
Side-by side we sat in a Chevy Chevette…

More than seventeen years ago, I was blessed with a hope made real.
Best Seat in the House
My hand glides lightly over its velvety fabric. Many hands – sticky and rough and small and greasy and snotty and delicate and yes, even some clean ones – have traveled a similar path. It beckons for touching. Few can resist the temptation to caress its surface as they round the corner into the open room.
Feeling Fruity
I’m a detail guy. Mr. Neat. A place for everything and everything in its place. A bit obsessive at times (I prefer meticulous). Thorough, for sure.
That's My Dad
I have spies in my house. They watch, listen, observe, mimic. If you’re a dad, you’ve got spies too…
A Eulogy
Monday, my father died.
Tour de Stress
Peloton. I added that word to my vocabulary this month compliments of the Tour de France. Not sure if I’ll be able to use it in a context outside of bike racing, but I welcome the challenge.
A Last ‘Huzzah!’ for the Puritans
Our fun with the Puritans in our last post generated some interesting feedback. We stirred the pot beyond this blog when Katrina, my son and I changed our photos on facebook to those with Puritan-like qualities…
Puritanical Parenting
The Puritans. Remember them? Think Pilgrims. Clothes of black and white. Big buckles. Big hats. Big Bibles. Lots of rules. Pious. Stoic. Rigid.
Deere Strike
Colored in gaudy green and yellow, John Deere is a bulwark of Americana. Rugged. Reliable. Trusted. Even in my dreams, I never owned one. Long ago I resigned myself to a destiny of off-brand mowing drudgery.
Jesus' Dad
One of my pastors made a statement that rattled me. To paraphrase, he said Jesus needed an earthly father. Really? I thought Jesus didn’t need anything? He is the Son of God, after all. You know, fully God and fully man. But the statement kept circling back: Jesus needed a dad. He needed Joseph.
Stretch Me Gently
I didn’t know it would be this hard. Seriously. It all seemed so glamorous in the concept phase (or would that be “conception” phase)…
